How straight do you want your hair to be?

Manage how straight your hair will be after using go-Kera.

On my last post, I explained how straightening works inside your hair.

Today I will explain how you can maximise your straightening effects or, if you have curly hair and want to keep your curls, how to only get more manageable and less frizzy hair, not necessarily straight.

It all has to do with the application process. TWO essential parts that will change the outcome of the treatment.

If you are reading this, then I am assuming you already know the application step by step.

The first factor that plays a role on how straight your hair will be is the time you leave the product in your hair.

We recommend as a general rule to leave it for 30 minutes.  This is enough time for all hair types to get the desired results HOWEVER it can be tailored to each hair type. It works as follow:

– On thick, curly and very frizzy hair you can leave the product for up to one hour. Or at least 45 minutes. If you read my last email you will understand that the longer the product stays in your hair, more it will work inside, relaxing the hair bonds thus promoting straighter results. Yes, the longer you leave the product in your hair, straighter it will get. (Attention Blondes, please read below)

–  On warm (yellow) blondes, you can still leave the product around 30-45 minutes if you don’t mind the toner component. You hair will go ashy. On cool blondes, especially hair that has been bleached, DO NOT leave the product for over 25 minutes, irrespective of hair type, otherwise your hair will overtone and you might get some purple. Even if you have thick, curly and bleached blonde hair, leave it the recommended time. Product will still work even with 25 minutes. If you don’t mind the overtoning then you can leave for 30 – 45 minutes.

– On fine, slightly frizzy and wavy hair, you can leave the product the recommended 30 minutes or up to 45 minutes if you like.

– Curly girls that don’t want the straightening or not too straight, you can still leave it a bit longer, around 45 minutes as the flat ironing part will determine how straight your hair will get.

The second factor (And most important!) that will determine the outcome is the flat ironing part of the process.

I cannot stress enough how important is this process in order to get straight and longer results.

Straightening your hair will lock in all ingredients and finalise the relaxation process of you hair bonds. It works as follow:

– In order to get super straight and longer results ensure your hair sections are very thin. Yes, it needs to be super thin even if you have to ask a friend or a hairdresser to do it for you. It will take a lot longer…BUT…The results are so worth. Makes all the difference. Adjust your iron temperature to 210C (no more than that) and do at least 10 strokes (repetitions) per section (Provided that your hair is fairly healthy).

– If you don’t want super straight or straight hair (Curly Hair girls)…If this is your case and you just want more manageable, less frizzy hair, without compromising the volume or your curls then you will do much thicker hair section when applying the iron (Around 0.5 -1cm thick, sections). Do 2 – 3 strokes per section. No more than that.  Use the same temperature, 210C.

ATTENTION!!! Damaged hair… – Very important, if your hair is damaged or not healthy, follow the following rules – Use Iron temperature of 170C – Even if you want a straight look, do no do more than 7 repetitions per section. I would say 5 is a safe number.

Highly recommend using our Leave-In Treatment, before straightening your hair. For Damaged especially, but also for healthy hair. After rinsing the Smoothing treatment, towel dry your hair, apply leave in and comb, then finish blow drying. Proceed to the flat ironing after that.
Our Leave In is great for HEAT protection, also protecting the hair colour adding shine and prolonging the Smoothing Effects.

We have a great video with tips to apply the product. Please see video below:

About Felipe

I was born and raised in Brazil and moved to Australia in 2006 where I soon fell in love with the Australian landscape, lifestyle and people. After practically growing up in salons in my homeland, I noticed that the Australian haircare market was lacking a high-quality, in salon or at-home, hair smoothing treatment that was pleasant to use and actually worked. So, I set out to create one. go-Kera™ by Scaevola is the result, and I can’t be happier so far. Enjoy!
